Breakfast Ideas and Recipes

Breakfast smoothies...oh so delicious.  I used to get the kind you can pick up at a smoothie bar or restaurant, but typically those are full of a TON of sugar.  There are places that have healthy options, and I will go for those if they are available and if I happen to be out and about without a smoothie or snack I made myself.  I have a Nutribullet blender, and it is awesome.  Quick, easy to clean and small enough to keep on the kitchen counter at all times.  You can make smoothies with a regular blender, too. :)

Here is a variation of my "green" smoothie:

Those collard greens aren't for presentation, folks.  They are really mild tasting in my smoothie and REALLY good for you.  You can substitute the any greens of your choice (like kale, spinach, romaine) for the collards.  Even if you don't like greens, if you blend them up with other fruits and flavors you really won't be able to tell they are there.  My husband is really picky, and even he will have the occasional "green" smoothie.  I also use a nutritional powder called Rockin' Wellness.  Google them, the stuff is amazing!  It is full of superfoods, minimally processed (no added chemicals!!!) and is made from plant-based ingredients and protein.  It is recommended to use non-cow's milk for their shakes, however, when I have a shake for breakfast I use cow's milk because it has more protein than Almond milk.  I do make them with Almond milk when it is for a snack or post-workout shake.  I medically require a certain amount of protein each day.  For this smoothie, you will need:

- A blender
- 2 scoops Rockin' Wellness powder (you can use Raw Protein powder or Whey protein powder as well)
- 1 Tbsp Nutribullet Superfoods Powder (optional)
- 2 large collard leaves, stem and inner rib removed
- 1/4 c blueberries
- 1/2 c strawberries
- 1 medium banana
- 1 1/2 c whole milk (I use non-homoginized cream top milk)
- 1 c ice

Add ingredients to blender and blend on high for 1 minute.  Done and done.  Also very tasty.  I love the taste of strawberries and chocolate together.
